Deliverance
-
We completed our third session of a new Dungeons & Dragons (4th Ed.) campaign. The campaign takes place in the Seven Bridges Valley. Our four players have created a group that is balanced and works well, but isn’t very diverse.
Rhogar – Dragonborn Protecting Paladin of Bahamut
Ghesh – Dragonborn Devoted Cleric of Bahamut
Plear – Elven Archer Ranger of the Raven Queen
Aelor – Elven Two-Blade Ranger of the Raven QueenOur adventure began with the party on a mission to deliver three barrels of ale to a local Count. Although it was suspected that there was something behind this delivery, the group went through with it anyway. It would take several days to travel and deliver the ale to the Count. On the way, traces of an unusually large amount of wolves were located in the area. One particularly large set of tracks was identified by the Rangers as Thunder Wolf tracks.
After some travelling, a large earthquake took place. This was becoming more and more of a common occurrence. Inside a crack of broken earth, the adventurers found a scroll case. Inside it was a message stating, “The path less traveled is clearly the better choice. Make haste!” These messages were also familiar to the group, as they had found two similar ones in the previous weeks of adventuring.
A storm began to brew. So the group took shelter in a farmer’s barn. It was a Dragonborn family of four: a father, mother, young son, and daughter. The next morning, as they were planning to depart and continue their journey, a Thunder Wolf and several other wolves attacked the farm. The leader snatched up the young boy, Kelk, and drug him into the forest.
The group gave chase. They succeeded with catching up to the wolf pack. As the pack came to a fork in the road it went left down the open pathway. Remembering what the scroll had foretold earlier, the adventurers veered to the right and were able to cut them off at a pit area. The wolves fell in, as did the Paladin, Rhogar, who lost his footing at the ledge. Ghesh and Aelor jumped down into the pit to enter the melee. Plear reigned down with his bow from above. They were able to defeat the wolves and save the boy. After returning him to his family, they continued on their travels.
Eventually, they arrived at the town where the Count resided. The group met with him and delivered the barrels of ale. Inside one barrel was a message to the Count from one of his agents. It informed that him that there were strange dealings going on in the Seven Bridges Valley. And, a trusted military leader, Captain Harkahn, had been imprisoned.
After discussing this with the Count, he informed the party where he believed Captain Harkahn to be located and asked them if they would rescue him. The adventurers accepted, and shortly were off. Six days later they found themselves in the area of the prison, searching through the woods for its location. They were warned by Elves living in those woods to leave. The group refused and a fight ensued. The adventurers quickly gained the upper hand over the Elves and they surrendered, without any deaths on either side.
The group informed the Elves that they were simply traveling through their forest looking for the prison. After the Elves realized this, they invited the travelers into their village. Upon arrival, it was apparent the Elves were simple folk with some sort of sickness wounding their children. Rhogar and Ghesh did what healing they could before the group left the next day for the prison.
As they gained sight of the prison across the valley, the adventurers were attacked by a group of Orcs. The ensuing battle saw the destruction of the Orcs. After their defeat, the group realized the Orcs bore the symbol on their clothing of the Orcs that had destroyed Aelor’s village several weeks earlier.
